The APA Manual allows the use of first person, when appropriate, to avoid ambiguity. Page 69 of the sixth edition states, "For clarity, restrict your use of "we" to refer only to yourself and your coauthors (use "I" if you are the sole author of the paper)." Narratives and personal reflection papers are anecdotal, experiential, and personal which assumes the use of "I" or "we", however, you should always check with your professor about the their opinion on the use first person pronouns.
