Have you ever found an article in one of the databases and added a link to it in Moodle only to have the link either not work at all or it doesn't work for off-campus users?
Often time what happens is that you've copied the URL from to top of your browser and plopped that into Moodle. The problems with that method are:
- Often times those URLs are for the session (the time that you are actively working with the database) which means later on (about 30 minutes later on) the session has ended and the link no longer works.
- You've grabbed the proper link, but you haven't prepended it with the EZproxy URL. EZproxy is the tool we use to allow off-campus access to the databases and the EZproxy URL has to be added to whatever link you've used so that people off-campus can access the article.
To help you figure out how to link to an article so it's usable we've created a guide titled, Database Permissions
It's not complete but we're getting there. If there is a database that you want instructions for now, let us know and we'll prioritize it.
There are a few ways to find this guide:
Through the Research Guides
- From the Library's home page choose the Research Guides tab
- Choose Using the Databases from the drop-down menu and go there
- From the next page choose Database Permissions from list of available guides
From the databases AtoZ page
- From the Library's home page, click on the Databases tab and navigate to the database of your choosing.
- Underneath the database description, if you see a Permitted Uses for this Database link click on it
- Look for the Use Persistent Links permission and you'll see a link to Instructions. Follow that link.
