For newspaper searches you could take a look at the newspaper database LexisNexis. LexisNexis is available though the Library's database pages and it searches major newspapers including the LA Times.
Although, because this is an opinion piece, the author is probably not an employee of the LA Times and because of that his article probably won't show up in electronic format. In this case the best place to go may be your public library.
Most public libraries carry the major newspapers and since this article is from 2005 it may be on microfilm. I would suggest calling first to make sure that they carry the newspaper and have it in the date range for the article.
