A file can be saved to the desk top, a flash drive, or some other location. 

Exporting to RefWorks means that you can send the citation information to RefWorks to use later for a bibliography; the actual file is not exported, only the information about it. If you want to you can add the file to RefWorks manually so that you have your citation information and document together.

Using RefWorks is an excellent way to organize your research and to save yourself time later when you're writing your paper.
