Linking to JSTOR using EZProxy and Stable URLs
JSTOR is a full-text database of academic and scholarly journals in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Coverage begins with volume one of each title and usually continues usually to a moving wall end date of 3 to 5 years previous. Graphs, photographs, and other images are included.
A stable URL can be created to a particular article, volume, or issue in JSTOR. Anyone who uses a stable URL or durable link must have access to the database from which the URL came. Therefore, off campus users must be authenticated as part of Dominican University through EZproxy. Off campus users who click on a Dominican University Ezproxy stable URL will be prompted to enter their username and password.
To create a JSTOR Stable URL at the article level:
- Login to JSTOR and locate an article of interest.
- Click on the Summary / Article Information link.
- The Summary page includes the Stable URL - often towards the bottom of the page. Do not use the link from the browser address bar; Use the Stable URL listed in the the citation record.
- To make sure links are also available for off-campus access through EZproxy: Select, copy and paste the entire Stable URL. Add the Dominican University EZproxy URL before the address: http://ezproxy.dominican.edu/login?url=
- Paste the entire JSTOR Stable URL with the Dominican University EZproxy prefix added into your document, Moodle site, webpage, or email.
- Test the link.
