Finding the NAICS for an Industry
Options:
- Go to the NAICS website
-
- Enter a keyword search
- First Research Database
- From the library homepage, click on Databases, then under “Databases by Subject” click on Business and Leadership
- Under the Electronic Resources tab, select Industry Research
- Click on First Research
- Do a simple keyword search or browse the industries
- Choose the most relevant industry description
- The NAICS and SIC codes will appear at the top of page.
- Reference USA for International Companies
- From the library homepage, click on Databases, then under “Databases by Subject” click on Business and Leadership
- Under the Electronic Resources tab, select Industry Research
- Click on Reference USA
- Click on OneSource
- Do a simple keyword search under "Industries"
- Choose the most relevant industry description
- the matching NAICS code is to the left.
- Reference USA for U.S. Companies
- From the library homepage, click on Databases, then under “Databases by Subject” click on Business and Leadership
- Under the Electronic Resources tab, select Industry Research
- Click on Reference USA
- Click on U.S. Businesses
- Search on a company that you are either researching or that you would believe to be competitor to your fictional company
- Choose the correct company from the results list
- Scroll down to the Industry Profile
- Choose the most relevant NAICS code
Remember, most companies have more than one relevant NAICS code. You may need to look at more than one for your research.
